Welfare Wednesday
Welcome back to Mays edition of welfare Wednesday and I hope some of the Japanese mental health techniques have been useful!
This week we are taking a look at how getting out for a run has a positive impact on your mental health, even if you don’t realise it!
So what are the benefits?
Stress Reduction:
Running can help regulate cortisol levels, leading to a reduction in stress and anxiety symptoms.
Anxiety and Depression Relief:
Studies show that regular running can be effective in managing anxiety and depression, potentially even being as effective as antidepressants
Mood Improvement:
Endorphins released during running contribute to a "runner's high," a feeling of euphoria and well-being, which can improve mood and reduce feelings of sadness
Cognitive Enhancement:
Running can improve cognitive function, including memory, attention, and concentration.
Improved Sleep Quality:
Regular exercise, including running, can help individuals fall asleep faster and enjoy deeper, more restful sleep
Sense of Accomplishment:
Running can provide a sense of accomplishment and empowerment, boosting self-esteem and confidence
Social Connection:
Running with others can provide social support and reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Nature Exposure:
Running outdoors in nature, known as green exercise, can be particularly beneficial for mental health, promoting relaxation.
So after tonights run, take a few minutes and check in with yourself to see how it has boosted your mental health today 💚
Next week brings a new month (how!?) and we will be focusing on men’s health.
